A flashing blue light normally means help is arriving. On a Worcester boiler, it means you may need to arrange it.

The short answer is that a Worcester boiler flashing blue light has normally registered an alert or fault on models that use the blue operation and fault light. The light does not identify one universal failed part.

How to Reset a Worcester Boiler

The reset control is not a pedestrian-crossing button. Repeated pressing does not make the engineer arrive faster.

What Can You Check Safely?

Power and Heating Demand

Check that the boiler display is on, the visible fused switch has not been turned off and the thermostat or programmer is asking for heating. If both heating and hot water have stopped, the information on the boiler is more useful than turning every control in the house up at once.

Gas Supply

If you have another gas appliance and there is no smell of gas, check whether that works. If the gas hob also has no supply, the problem may be beyond the boiler. Do not repeatedly try to ignite appliances.

Visible System Pressure

If your boiler or sealed heating system has a pressure gauge, note the reading while the system is cool. Many sealed systems sit around 1 to 1.5 bar when cold, but the correct range depends on the installation. A reading well below 1 bar is useful information. Switching the electrical supply off and on can restore a blank display after a power interruption, but it is not the same as following the model's fault-reset instruction. If the boiler is showing a lockout, use the reset control described in its manual.

What About a Worcester Oil Boiler?

Worcester oil boilers can also use a flashing blue light and a reset button. On a Greenstar Heatslave II, a blue light, warning triangle and fault code can appear together.

The Heatslave II manual says a 9F 855 burner lockout can be reset and the oil supply checked. It also prevents further resets after five failed attempts and displays 9F 856.
