How Much Is a Boiler Service?
Boiler service prices are one of those things that should be simple, but somehow end up wrapped in enough small print to make you consider taking up candlelight and a blanket.
Insight by Vector Heat
At Vector Heat, our current boiler service prices are:
| Boiler type | Service price |
|---|---|
| Gas boiler service | £105 |
| LPG boiler service | £125 |
| Oil boiler service | £165 including nozzle |
These prices were supplied by Liam and should be confirmed before publishing if the article has been sat in drafts for a while. Prices have a habit of changing just when you have made a neat table. Very rude.
Why Boiler Service Prices Vary
A boiler service is not exactly the same job on every boiler.
Gas, LPG and oil boiler servicing are different jobs, so they are priced differently. Gas is normally the cheapest service we offer. LPG is slightly more because it needs the right qualification and setup checks. Oil servicing costs more because it takes longer and usually includes extra consumables, such as a nozzle.
What Should a Good Boiler Service Include?
A good boiler service should follow the manufacturer's instructions for that exact boiler.
That sounds obvious, but it matters. Even boilers from the same manufacturer can have different heat exchangers, seals, electrodes, condensate traps and service schedules.
A proper service can include:
- visual checks
- safety checks
- combustion checks where required
- flue checks where accessible
- checking for leaks or signs of deterioration
- checking system pressure
- checking the expansion vessel, if the boiler has one
- cleaning the condensate trap, if the boiler has one
- advising on parts due by age or manufacturer schedule
The key point is this: there is no single universal boiler service that fits every model.
Gas Boiler Service Cost
Our gas boiler service price is currently £105.
For many modern gas boilers, the service may be more inspection and testing than stripping everything apart every year. Some manufacturers only require more intrusive work at set intervals or when test results suggest it is needed.
That does not mean it is a quick glance and a thumbs-up. It means the service should match the appliance.
LPG Boiler Service Cost
Our LPG boiler service price is currently £125.
LPG boilers are similar in many ways to gas boilers, but the qualification and setup are different. From a customer's point of view, the important thing is to use an engineer who is properly qualified for LPG, not just gas.
Oil Boiler Service Cost
Our oil boiler service price is currently £165 including a nozzle.
Oil boilers usually take longer to service than gas boilers. The nozzle is normally changed, and hoses may sometimes need changing too. Oil boilers are a bit more hands-on, which is a polite way of saying they rarely let anyone leave with clean sleeves.
Do Condensate Traps Always Get Cleaned?
Yes. If your boiler has a condensate trap, we clean it as part of the service.
The exact method depends on the boiler. Some boilers allow the trap to be removed and cleaned without changing seals. Others have a different arrangement, so the service still needs to follow the manufacturer's instructions for that model.
This is why "what does a boiler service include?" can only be answered properly when you know the boiler model.
Will You Check the Expansion Vessel?
Yes, if the boiler has an expansion vessel. We check the pressure and pump it back up if needed.
This matters because the expansion vessel helps absorb the expansion of heating water as it warms up. If the vessel has lost its air charge, the boiler pressure can climb too high when the heating runs, then drop too low once the system cools. That is the kind of small maintenance detail that can prevent a very boring pressure problem from becoming your new hobby.
Should Parts Be Changed During a Service?
Sometimes, yes.
On many boilers, electrodes are commonly changed around every five years, but the correct answer is always the manufacturer's schedule for that boiler.
What If My Boiler Has a Fault?
Always tell us before the visit if your boiler has a fault.
Sometimes a boiler cannot be serviced properly while the fault is present. In that case, the right thing to do is diagnose the fault first, fit the new parts, and then service the boiler once the repair has been carried out. It is simply that the service needs doing after the new parts have been fitted, so the boiler can be checked and set up properly.
If we know about the fault before we arrive, we may be able to bring the likely part with us. That can save an extra appointment and often saves money too. A quick note such as "it loses pressure", "it makes a banging noise", or "it shows an EA fault code" is much more useful than "it is being weird", although to be fair, boilers do enjoy being weird.
Keep a Record of Your Boiler
It is useful to know:
- when the boiler was fitted
- the exact model
- when it was last serviced
- which parts have been changed
- any recommended future maintenance
Google is useful, but it is not always right for service schedules. Boilers from the same brand can have different requirements.
FAQ
How much is a gas boiler service?
Vector Heat currently charges £105 for a gas boiler service.
How much is an LPG boiler service?
Vector Heat currently charges £125 for an LPG boiler service. Make sure the engineer is qualified for LPG work.

Does a boiler service include repairs?
Usually no. A service checks and maintains the boiler. Repairs, parts and fault-finding may be extra. If your boiler already has a fault, tell us before the visit because we may need to diagnose the fault first, or bring a likely part with us to avoid another appointment.
Is the condensate trap cleaned during a boiler service?
Yes, if the boiler has a condensate trap, we clean it as part of the service. The exact method depends on the boiler model and manufacturer instructions.
Is the expansion vessel checked during a boiler service?
Yes, if the boiler has an expansion vessel, we check the pressure and pump it back up if needed.
How often should a boiler be serviced?
Most boilers should be serviced annually, especially for warranty, safety and landlord requirements. The exact service tasks should follow the manufacturer's instructions.
Need a boiler service?
If your boiler is due a service, Vector Heat can service gas, LPG and oil boilers and explain what your specific model actually needs, not just what a generic checklist says.
